L'Earl Grey, la miscela di tè più popolare al mondo, richiede solo due ingredienti: tè nero e bergamotto. Questo agrume mediterraneo prospera solo in poche regioni del mondo, ma da quando si è unito all'Earl Grey, è arrivato in tazze in ogni angolo del globo.

Prende il nome da Charles Grey, primo ministro britannico degli anni '30 dell'Ottocento. Secondo la leggenda, il tè aromatizzato era un regalo. Altri dicono che abbia salvato un mandarino cinese dall'annegamento, anche se Charles non è mai stato in Cina. Altri ancora sostengono che il bergamotto sia stato aggiunto per imitare una cultivar di prima qualità.
