Category: Black Tea

Yunnan Black Tower makes a stunning presentation—tea leaves with numerous golden tips, braided into cones that open up while brewing. Golden buds give an inviting raspberry-sweetness to the aroma, which lingers at the upper edge of the flavor profile. Longer steeps bring out the rustic tobacco flavor often associated with Yunnan Province teas, releasing a sharp mineral edge to the aftertaste.

For a visual-and-mouthwatering treat, brew this tea in a glass container and watch the cones unfurl! When steeped, these cones resist bitterness, making them both extremely versatile and a nice choice for gong fu brewing. But even then, the tea remains smooth, medium-bodied, and—with a malty sweet undercurrent—utterly drinkable.

Every Yunnan Black Tower cone makes a 12-ounce serving of tea. Either enjoy a cup (and subsequent re-steeps) yourself, or throw a few in a teapot and share this amazing tea with friends.

The cone slowly unfurled in my glass teapot and the golden tips were impossible to miss. That raspberry sweetness in the aroma caught me off guard, though the second steep was noticeably softer than the first.

I brewed these cones expecting a typical black tea, but the raspberry-sweetness in the aroma really comes through—it's like a subtle fruitiness that lingers even as the tea cools. The golden tips unfurl slowly and give a smooth, mellow cup that lasts for multiple steeps.

The cones are so beautiful dry that I almost didn’t want to break them up—but once they unfurl in the pot, the golden tips really release that raspberry sweetness. Brewed it three times this afternoon and each cup stayed smooth and aromatic.
